Learning how to photograph with natural light is vital for every photographer who struggles with having lights, a studio, latest camera, or a full staff this video is for you, especially if you have 2018 goals! You’ll learn between good light and great light. I photographed a model about to get on a TV show and we shot in all natural light with barebones equipment – my first generation Canon 7D. In this photography tutorial, I wanted to show that all you need is a willing subject, camera and the sun.

okay so I'm on the way to the beach right now I know this doesn't safe that I'm driving but you're mounted to the dashboard listen Tom ever say I'm leading Todd who is an actor and a model and I met him online you know we're just gonna do a quick shoot where I want to show you guys that you can use natural light and that you can just have a simple camera crop sensor camera a couple lenses and that that it's a hundred percent natural light not even any bounce today shoot this what have coppice following me how do I explain to them that this is for my youtube channel I get okay so the cop left my tail think it's really important to always keep shooting just even if what sometimes they're paid jobs sometimes their unpaid jobs but the idea is that you always shoot you always put that energy out there the creative force but also you're getting back to trying a new thing I'm at the beach Seal Beach California this is a location that I like to shoot at lately because it's kind of concealed it's between Orange County in LA and you don't need a permit so biggest waste of money I'm like what the hell am I doing talking to myself I'm a YouTube channel when I park you know another way that I scout is I go through Google Maps you guys this works Street View I keep clicking and clicking and clicking and going down the streets I also wanna houses always I'll find people stores bushes Google Maps a lot of times that's how I pick up and satellite so I'm just waiting on top to get here the weather condition is a little bit it's patchy clouds and it's sunny at the same time every 5 seconds so what that means is that I'm gonna have to adjust my settings all the time and it's one of the challenges but also I don't need the strokes I don't need a reflector okay so it's important to pick a secluded area if you're not gonna permit you see Todd doing his own hair makeup you don't need anything his friend Langan was there to help he brought his own wardrobe so we have some jeans and underwear you'll see why we did that but I also I always make my models workout because it helps tone you up so if you have a chance if you're shooting a lot of body stuff make them do push-ups make them do sit-ups this is how you tone them up real fast this is the only equipment I have today 7200 2.8 Canon L Series lens and the old 7d because I still don't have my 5d this is Seal Beach between Orange County in LA laying in relaxing on the floor she's real cool though this is my favorite lighting trip so the tip of my thumb right here that's the nose this is the eye socket right here and so I keep moving it because I want to see it's basically to mimic the face and when you don't have a model to test shoot with if your location scouting this fist trick is literally my favorite thing it has saved me so much so you see how it moves assignment you can rewind this video if you want and see how it it's here I've asked Todd to get wet hit the beach five my only studio equipment right there you'll notice and that's what that turns out like I'm shooting against the Sun so I get a lot more shadows that's why you shoot against the Sun like this photograph right there and then once I get that I move overs I get a variety of shots and this is sort of this is see the drops on his back that's why I had him get wet and it's important to always talk to the models so if you have to kind of mimic it give them instructions this is what's key this is what they're relying on you for and they're relying on you to direct them this was actually him sitting on the lifeguard tower this picture but you get an idea of how it turned out now this is really important as a photographer you always want to have this conversation with them you want to pull them aside and roll through the camera images and say this is what's good this is what was not good here's what we need to fix and then you go back and you shoot this is how I get the models prep and season so much faster then I just don't I just don't waste a lot of time doesn't mean trying to tell them how to keep up this is what happens when you shoot against the Sun you get the beautiful dark shadows and the highlights on the other side again keep shooting after I give him instructions and then I still yell instructions out this is us in a secluded little beach for the model to feel comfortable and because of permits sorry from Department if you're watching you he did dry up because of the Sun in the room so I haven't go back you're such a good sport look what a dick I am poor guy but good attitude that's the kind of people you want to work work with but see when he comes out of the water I notice an opportunity to shoot him like that picture I just passed but I stopped him because I liked what I saw and I said let's go ahead and stop and take some pictures so you see these and that's always keeping aware always keeping your eyes open and being open to everything use the shadows you guys especially these winter and fall shadows they're incredible he's shivering you see how windy it is from my shirt we try every angle and once you get it that you know move to the next move to the next keep trying because what the Sun being so low in the evening out on this time of the year you're getting so many different looks you see me going from one side to another and again in the first series of the 70d Canon is freezing poor guy you guys this little loop is a lifesaver I'm gonna link it down below I don't think it's much if this is what you need to see in a bright sunny day and I shoot black and white but in raw and then in post it can be colored so always shoot raw and then as a photographer if you have to get in the water get in the water of course I'll chicken out like this but he's freezing in his in his underwear so you show them again making it back in the water so we get it right sorry I was such a good sport and there you go and also you can see all the full rest Simha jizz at the link down below in this video too look how cold it is here's some of the pictures facing the Sun to wreak sunlight again 7d first generation 72 200 L series Canon lens okay so I just finished the shooting with Todd and it was a really really good one I was very cool about it the weather is kind of chilly now and socal i use the 7d camera excuse the wind a little bit but i just want to get the information out to you guys now I used the 70 to 200 Canon lens a 2.8 and that's it no bounce no flash none of that stuff the Sun was really good I was a little bit worried because we had a lot of these patchy clouds earlier and so the light was going in and out for me but everything cooperate if this channel is something that really helps you out if you've gained some information from it definitely please hit subscribe it's somewhere down below you know where it's at hit like leave a comment that stuff actually it really helps out with YouTube and please share this video with someone someone that doesn't feel like they have enough stuff that they have enough money that they don't have enough access you don't need it you just go to a public place you just use the Sun that is accessible to all of us a small camera and so you don't need a studio you don't need strobes and assistant I don't have much but I had creativity and I had the Sun and I had a person willing to be photographed and I just want you guys to know you don't need a lot of stuff to get started you don't need a lot of stuff to get some beautiful images and I want you guys to go ahead and just start shooting don't take a break send this video to someone that needs the encouragement send this video to someone that doesn't feel they have good enough equipment so my name is Waleed this is
